“In 2020, when We Insist! – which drew most of its inspiration – laid down its arms, Etienne Gaillochet gave birth to Mule Jenny, initially as a solo project, which quickly turned into a collective adventure when Théo Guéneau and Max Roy – the frontmen of the unmissable Lysistrata – came to support him, ready to take on his complex rhythms and quirky melodies. The trio quickly found their stride and ideas began to flow: no longer content to simply perform, the three got their hands dirty and crafted a repertoire they like to describe as “almost pop”. Almost only, because beneath these deceptively familiar structures lie rhythmic pitfalls, zigzagging melodic lines and a complexity that is not always what you hear. “Sometimes there are songs that may seem complex to the listener but which, for us, are very simple, and others that may seem simple but are much more difficult to play,” says Etienne. It’s all a matter of perspective.” [translated from french]
